What's it like to be an infantry Officer?

the general feeling will be the same whether or not you are newly enlisted or newly commissioned, you are a boot until you prove otherwise. go commissioned. the world needs some idealist who want to do more than "blow sh!t up" especially in the infantry. you can and will do both (make a difference and blow sh!t up)
