Considering relocating to Tennessee...?

I'm considering moving myself and family to eastern Tennesse, but really don't know where to begin. Also, if anyone out there is from or familiar with TN, please let me know of some good towns; I'd like somewhere within 45 minutes east of Nashville-give or take a few. I would also like resedential area, not alone in the mountains, but very close to the mountains also.
