What can be used as healthy treats for gerbils?

I've read that the best way to tame gerbils is to handle them everyday by using food as bribery. However, pumpkin seeds are too fattening to give them everyday and too much fruit and veg. can lead to the soft poos so whats a treat i could give them everyday without adverse effects?
