How can I tell if my ankle is just sprained or slightly dislocated?

Okay, I know this story is lame but you'll have to forgive me for being a klutz. A week ago I got my foot stuck in a ginormous shopping cart and then slipped on the ice. When the cart fell over it twisted my foot. I've been doing the whole RICE routine since then with my week off of school but it still hurts to put too much weight on my ankle. It's still slightly swollen and discolored. It just looks and feels sometimes like it's kind of twisted inwards or something. Obviously it still needs time to heal, but what are the possibilities that I dislocated it or something? Thanks for any help :)
