Laptop Wifi prob..?

so i have this Gateway Vista Laptop i gust got like 4 months ago and i just bought a D-link: wireless notebook Adapter WNA-1330....it slides in the side. and i cant get it to work what should i have bought just to boost my Wifi Anntena. or get the D-link adapter to work i need help..?
